| Where are Young Audiences programs presented? Can I call the artists directly? Can you FAX me the program guide? I need an artist for our school. Can you help? How long are the programs? Can the whole school participate? Can our location get a free program? Can I give a check to the artist on the day of the performance? What can teachers do to relate Young Audience programs to the curriculum? Where are Young Audience programs presented? Young Audiences provides in-school and community-based arts programs at your location. Last year we presented more than 6,000 programs in hundreds of different locations. We bring the arts to you. top Can I call the artists directly? No. It's better if we do it. YA maintains each artist's schedule. Our office staff is very knowledgeable about the artists' programs and can match your requests with available performers and presentations. top Can you FAX me the program guide? No, it's too large to fax. But, you can access the program information on this web site. We'll be happy to mail you a guide, but if you use the web, you can help us reduce the cost of postage. top I need an artist for our school. Can you help? Absolutely. That's what we're here for. Young Audiences has more than 250 programs in theatre, dance, music, visual and multi-disciplinary arts. Every one is taught by Young Audiences' professional artists. We can even help you plan your entire school year of arts programs in advance. top How long are the programs? It depends on the format you select. Young Audiences offers three different kinds: Assembly Programs: Typically, 35-45 minutes long. Workshops: Designed for small groups of students, workshops may follow an assembly program or stand alone. They usually last 45-50 minutes but some workshops may require more than one class period. Residencies: The minimum time period for a Young Audiences residency is 5 days. The artist meets with classes of no more than 30 students with a maximum of four classes per day. top Can the whole school participate? The smaller the audience the more interaction an artist is able to have with students and the more successful the involvement for all participants will be. If you'll check the YA Program Guide, you'll see audience limits for each listing. Multiple performances may be scheduled back-to-back to accomodate more students. We encourage you to schedule workshops in conjunction with performances to increase the impact. Multi-day workshops and residencies are also excellent ways to involve the entire community. These more intensive formats allow time to create a performance or legacy project. top Can our location get a free program? Young Audiences doesn't offer free programming on request, but there are other options you can pursue (see suggested links below). Certain counties receive grants, and there is a possibility you can work with your local arts council for funding. Young Audiences' artist fees vary. But please remember that our artists are professionals, and this is their livelihood. Young Audiences' program prices do not represent the full cost of bringing the programs to you, but are supplemented by our contributors. www.gaarts.org www.schoolgrants.org www.arts.gov/federal.html www.foundationcenter.org top Can I give a check to the artist on the day of the performance? No. Your contract is with Young Audiences. Payments should be made payable to Young Audiences and should be mailed in advance of the performance to our office. The artists contract with Young Audiences to provide your program. You pay Young Audiences and Young Audiences is responsible for paying the artist. top What can teachers do to relate Young Audiences programs to the curriculum? Young Audiences study guides for all programs contain an overview of each program, backround info and relevant vocabulary and additional resources can be found on our website. Workshops & residencies are the most effective ways to integrate the arts with other curriculum subjects. Teachers will also find loads of resources, lesson plans and ideas on Young Audiences' Arts for Learning web site (www.arts4learning.org). |
