SmART StART pairs teams of kindergarten teachers with talented teaching artists to help early learners acquire critical literacy skills.  In 10-session residencies, children explore a variety of topics and concepts using an arts-integrated approach.  As they compose their own songs, tell and retell stories or pretend to be animals, they are really recognizing sight and rhyming words, acquiring new vocabulary, understanding “beginning, middle and end,” and learning to listen well.

The MetLife Dance program motivates young people to experience the joy of dance and to incorporate its physical and emotional benefits as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Young Audiences dance teaching artists, representing a variety of styles and genres (e.g., modern, native West African, jazz ), lead 10-session residencies in which students explore dance from a variety of perspectives—as a means of communication and self expression; as a reflection of cultural practices and traditions; and as a physically demanding combination of strength, flexibility, agility and beauty.

Share the World invites elementary students to explore and interpret themes of diversity, tolerance and respect for the environment through five-day, curriculum-based residencies led by music, dance, theatre and visual arts teaching artists.  As students create original works of art, collaborate with fellow students and share their learning with peers and parents, they mirror the lessons of cooperation, respect and responsibility which the “Share the World” theme embodies.
