As you may know, Young Audiences is a leading provider of arts-in-education programs in
schools across Georgia. More and more, though, we have been reaching out to families in the community through free performances open to the public. Whether you are a parent with school aged children or a teacher interested in using the arts in your classroom, these performances offer a great opportunity to come and see what Young Audiences is all about!
Young Audiences joined over 500 families at Atlanta Parent’s Family Block Party in October. In addition to enjoying games and train rides, attendees got a chance to learn traditional West African dances with the members Manga African Dance. Parents and kids alike got into the spirit, stomping their feet and swinging their arms in time with the djembe drum. Old and young alike pulled up a proverbial chair to listen to tales spun by master Young Audiences storyteller Shelly Norfolk. Sherry’s focus on character education pleased parents, while her energy and creativity captivated the kids. Lucky families walking around the Block Party might have bumped into Vincenzo Tortorici in his role as busker extraordinaire!
The month of November is full of opportunities to see Young Audiences in action! In honor of the High Museum’s “Louvre Atlanta” exhibit, Young Audiences artists will give free performances in the Woodruff’s Nalley Piazza every weekend in November. Whether you’re planning to visit the High or not, you can come and enjoy a special educational treat with Young Audiences from 1-4 PM each Saturday and Sunday. Participating artists include New Orleans-style jazz pianist Dave Ellington, Cuban duo Havana Son, world percussion ensemble Ritmo Blu, jazz ensemble Rialto Jazz for Kids, Emmy-winning world music group Sapien and Latin trio Tahino.
Be sure to take in at least one of these great free performances and learn why Young Audiences is the number one choice for arts-in-education programs!
