Students are introduced to the basic concepts involved in classic mime. They learn and experience a series of movement exercises and gestures that create a mime “vocabulary” - one that enhances their ability to express themselves using this magical, silent performing art form.
Sandra Hughes
Sandra Hughes is a professional performer, writer, director, and choreographer who engages students of all ages and backgrounds in interactive workshops, residencies, and performances that include drama, mime, masks, playwriting, and dramatic storytelling. Sandra recently received the Outstanding Partner Award from the City of Atlanta for the positive impact her workshops have on youth. Sandra’s performances have inspired audiences throughout the United States and in thirteen other countries. Video productions of her work have been distributed nationally for Public Television, featured on Canadian National television and showcased at the American Film Institute Video Festival. The Sandra L. Hughes Theatre Collection in the Theatre Research Institute at The Ohio State University documents her professional career. Sandra is the Producing Artistic Director of Gateway Performance Productions.
