Folksongs and stories offer a passport to the land of the Rising Sun, the Emerald Isle, or the Land of the Dragon.
Tales of Ireland:The Irish option includes a humorous version of St. Patrick ridding Ireland of snakes, a leprechaun tale, Irish jigs, limericks, kissing the blarney stone, a Finn McCoul tale, and everything green.
Tales of China: For China, Cathy uses three stories representing different facets of Chinese culture along with props and costumes to introduce the traditions and folklore of this ancient country.
Tales of Japan: The Japanese program shares sights and traditions in part through travelogue and in part through Japanese tales like “The Funny Little Woman” or, for older audiences, “Three Strong Women.”
Cathy Kaemmerlen
Cathy Kaemmerlen, professional actress, author, and storyteller, is known for her variety of characters, one-woman shows, and rapport with audiences.
She has toured in schools coast to coast since receiving a BA in English and elementary education from UNC-Charlotte and an MFA in dance performance/choreography/theatre at the University of Wisconsin.
She is the author of General Sherman and the Georgia Belles: Tales of Women Left Behind, Speaking Stones: Voices from Historic Oakland Cemetery, and her recent Just Buzzing Around with Itty Bitty Betty, She's a Honey of a Bee. Cathy is listed with Southern Artist Profile, National Women's History Project, and the Georgia and South Carolina Arts Commission Touring Artists Rosters. She excels in making history and folktales come to life.
